Nervous Conditions for next year

Personally I really enjoyed reading this book. I love the message that it sends and I also think that it sends it in a very easy and intriguing way to understand. Personally I think that it would be very easy to create a book showing this topic in a very boring way but I think that this bok presented it in a very good way.

I think that you should continue to read this book in your class because I think that it would be hard to find a book that is this interesting and easy to read/understand on this topic. I like the way that it was written and the story was good and simple with easy grammer and writing styles except for the words written in Tambu's native words.

I like the idea that this book portrays and I think that it is something that everyone should learn about and recognize. Also I think that this book helps people pir age understand things better because it is written in our perspective and it helps us relate it to our life instead of an adult lifestyle.

Overall I think that this book is a key part of the curriculum and I think that it is a solid part of it also and I think that you should continue to include it in your class.

What I Want Most In The World

What I want most in the world is for protection. I want there to be protection for everything and everyone. Even though there is protection now I think that it could become better to prevent things from happening that continue to happen but no one can help stop them. If protection was felt everywhere you go I think that it would be easier to trust people or places and there wouldn't be a bad part of town or stuff like that because it would all be protected the same.

A character we learned about that wanted something was Tambu. Tambu wants girls to be able to go to school and for girls not to be look at as girls and for blacks not to be looked at as blacks. Tambu wanted to go to school so she went against everyone's advice and did what she thought would be best and it worked for her. She did what her heart told her to do and it turned out the way she wanted for the most part.

Poem

Once day I was
walking down the dark
and dusty road. When I
see this road I
usually run---

This road is darker dark
than dark chocolate
and with the light
of the moon
like a lamp
shining on spots like
the spots on a dalmatian
you can see

lots of enjambment in lines to create drama in the lines
also there is alliteration, consonance and assonance
imagery paints a better picture

Reading Response

Right now in my book "Kissing Venessa" the main character of the book is beginning to overcome some of the obsitcals in his life. He is beginning to come out of hus shell a little bit and showing people who he really is on the inside. He is starting to show his real feelings for venessa, the girl he loves, and she is starting to notice him more.

One of the main things that has happened in the book is that the boy and Venessa start to hang out and actually talk to each other and they are becoming closer. He is getting and giving advice from and to his friends and he is starting to feel confident about his feelings for venessa.

Song Analysis

The song i chose to analyse is Umbrella by Rhianna. I chose this song because there are many points in the song where you are drawn into the lyrics and you can really feel what is going on in the song. There are many devices used in the song, some intentional and some not, but all of them make the feel of the song a little stronger. One of the devices she uses in the lyrics is when in one line she will put two words that either rhyme or sound the same to make the emphesis of the line the much more. One place where she uses this is in the line where it says "anticipation for precipitation". Saying this makes the line stand out and somewhat changes the way we picture both of the words. It changes the view of that the words are standing for.

In another line she uses the words dark and light to compare two objects in the dark not being able to be seen in the light. This creates a vision in your head of what the sky and surroundings look like in this picture she is visualizing. It is like getting into her head and feeling what she is feeling while she writes the song. She uses alot of descriptive words throughout the song to make a better visual of what she wants the song to mean.

Nervous Conditions: Chapter 9 and 10

When Tambu is given a scholarship to Sacred heart, the Catholic school, she has two contradicting opinions on what she should do. Maiguru thinks she should go for the sake of educated women, and Babamukuru thinks she should save money because of the new baby. For the next Christmas Nyasha and Maiguru stay home most of the time while Babamukuru drives Tambu back and forth.

While home, Tambu hears Babamukuru telling Jeremiah that he is letting Tambu go to the new school. Later in the chapter, Tambu has to deal with alot of things going on with her family Her mother becomes depressed and Tambu notices Nyasha's eating disorder. Tambu has to deal with many things including being told to stay away from her cousin because she has "Englishness".
