2:05 class work

Nervous Conditions for next year

Personally I really enjoyed reading this book. I love the message that it sends and I also think that it sends it in a very easy and intriguing way to understand. Personally I think that it would be very easy to create a book showing this topic in a very boring way but I think that this bok presented it in a very good way.

I think that you should continue to read this book in your class because I think that it would be hard to find a book that is this interesting and easy to read/understand on this topic. I like the way that it was written and the story was good and simple with easy grammer and writing styles except for the words written in Tambu's native words.

I like the idea that this book portrays and I think that it is something that everyone should learn about and recognize. Also I think that this book helps people pir age understand things better because it is written in our perspective and it helps us relate it to our life instead of an adult lifestyle.

Overall I think that this book is a key part of the curriculum and I think that it is a solid part of it also and I think that you should continue to include it in your class.

What I Want Most In The World

What I want most in the world is for protection. I want there to be protection for everything and everyone. Even though there is protection now I think that it could become better to prevent things from happening that continue to happen but no one can help stop them. If protection was felt everywhere you go I think that it would be easier to trust people or places and there wouldn't be a bad part of town or stuff like that because it would all be protected the same.

A character we learned about that wanted something was Tambu. Tambu wants girls to be able to go to school and for girls not to be look at as girls and for blacks not to be looked at as blacks. Tambu wanted to go to school so she went against everyone's advice and did what she thought would be best and it worked for her. She did what her heart told her to do and it turned out the way she wanted for the most part.

Poem

Once day I was
walking down the dark
and dusty road. When I
see this road I
usually run---

This road is darker dark
than dark chocolate
and with the light
of the moon
like a lamp
shining on spots like
the spots on a dalmatian
you can see

lots of enjambment in lines to create drama in the lines
also there is alliteration, consonance and assonance
imagery paints a better picture

Reading Response

Right now in my book "Kissing Venessa" the main character of the book is beginning to overcome some of the obsitcals in his life. He is beginning to come out of hus shell a little bit and showing people who he really is on the inside. He is starting to show his real feelings for venessa, the girl he loves, and she is starting to notice him more.

One of the main things that has happened in the book is that the boy and Venessa start to hang out and actually talk to each other and they are becoming closer. He is getting and giving advice from and to his friends and he is starting to feel confident about his feelings for venessa.

Song Analysis

The song i chose to analyse is Umbrella by Rhianna. I chose this song because there are many points in the song where you are drawn into the lyrics and you can really feel what is going on in the song. There are many devices used in the song, some intentional and some not, but all of them make the feel of the song a little stronger. One of the devices she uses in the lyrics is when in one line she will put two words that either rhyme or sound the same to make the emphesis of the line the much more. One place where she uses this is in the line where it says "anticipation for precipitation". Saying this makes the line stand out and somewhat changes the way we picture both of the words. It changes the view of that the words are standing for.

In another line she uses the words dark and light to compare two objects in the dark not being able to be seen in the light. This creates a vision in your head of what the sky and surroundings look like in this picture she is visualizing. It is like getting into her head and feeling what she is feeling while she writes the song. She uses alot of descriptive words throughout the song to make a better visual of what she wants the song to mean.

Nervous Conditions: Chapter 9 and 10

When Tambu is given a scholarship to Sacred heart, the Catholic school, she has two contradicting opinions on what she should do. Maiguru thinks she should go for the sake of educated women, and Babamukuru thinks she should save money because of the new baby. For the next Christmas Nyasha and Maiguru stay home most of the time while Babamukuru drives Tambu back and forth.

While home, Tambu hears Babamukuru telling Jeremiah that he is letting Tambu go to the new school. Later in the chapter, Tambu has to deal with alot of things going on with her family Her mother becomes depressed and Tambu notices Nyasha's eating disorder. Tambu has to deal with many things including being told to stay away from her cousin because she has "Englishness".

Nervous Conditions: Chapter 8

In this chapter Tambu wants to be mad at Babamukuru, but she feels like she cant be because of everything he has done for her. There is alot of comparison between Tambu and Nyasha because of Tambu being a nice young lady and Nyasha disappointing her father once more. Tambu and Nyasha fight because Nyasha wants to do all of the planning for Jeremiah and Ma'Shingayi's wedding but Tambu is jealous because it is her parents.

Tambu gets punished because she tells Babamukuru that she does not and wont go to the wedding so she stays at the homestead while everyone else goes. When Maiguru leaves because she is angry with Babamukuru, Nyasha is not mad because she did not get abandoned, her mother was just getting away from Babamukuru's power for a little while which makes Nyasha happy for her mother.

Nervous Conditions: Chapter 7

In the beginning of chapter 7, Babamukuru and his family are headed to Tambu's family's homestead for Christmas and Nyasha and Chido are not happy about it. Chido gets out of it because he is invited to go with a schoolfriend  but Nyasha is stuck with the family. When they arrive, they all see that the homestead has changed dramatically. It is dirty and falling apart around them and Tambu's family. Also when they arrive, they see that Tambu's aunt, who Babamukur asked to leave, and her husband are still living on the homestead and he is not happy about it.

Towards the end of the chapter there is alot of family drama going on between Lucia, Takesure, Jeremiah, Babamukuru, and Ma'Shingayi. Lucia is accused of adultery and she also overhears Takesure talking about her supposedly preforming witchcraft behind her back which makes Lucia very angry. Lucia says that she is going to leave and bring her sister with her creating alot of problems in the crowded house.

Places and Identities

When I go to a place usually I have been there before so I know what to expect from that place. I know what kind of environment the place will have and what the people there will be like, but if I go to a new place the people and environment wil be different and sometimes unexpected. When you go to places like these you have to adapt to the environment and sometimes it changes how you act and what kind of person you come across to be.

If I go to a place where it is very peaceful and quite and the people are all calm and polite and the colors are calm and light i will be in a calm and nice state, acting like the people around me as to say. On the other hand if i go to a place where there is loud music and lots of bright colors and lights and the people have harsh personalities and they are wild and maybe kind of in your face your body adapts to that and sometimes you come across as that kind of person too.

If you go to one of these places the people there might not know you and when they see you they might think that you are a kind of person that you are not because your body and personality has changed to fit the environment so you might almost push potentially god people away because they think that you are someone that you're not.

The main thing is when you go places or go around people that you dont usually go around, your body and personality will try and change the adapt to your surroundings but sometimes you have to realize that it is not always good that this happens and you have to keep in touch with your normal self so you dont loose that part of you.

Persona: Tambu

If I were Tambu and I was put in some of the positions that she was put in, I would act the same in some and differently in others. For example, if I couldnt do something I love anymore, in her case go to school, I would do what she did and do everything in my power to try and do it again even if everyone beats me down about it, I would just push forwards and do what I believe I can do. But on the other hand of when she was leaving her family to go and live with Babamukuru, I would have acted differently when I was leaving. Tambu acted as if she was better than everyone else and maybe she was but you dont act like that to the people you love as you are leaving them. I would have acted much differently than her in the fact that I would act as if I was really going to miss them because I know that I would and thank them for the opportunity and all of those things which she didnt do.

Layered Project

Im my opinion, I am not a huge fan of the layered project. I mean it is not horrible but I think that it is alot of work to do at one time. I think that it could have been better if we started it sooner and worked on it sooner in class. I think that my work on it is average, not the best but not bad, but I think that if I had a longer period of time to do it the work would have been better. I see how the layered project could be good in a way but for me it is kind of hard to see the good side of it, I just see it as alot of things that I have to do on top of alot of other things. Hopefully this layer will go a little better than the last because I will know what to expect and know how long each aspect will take.

Reflection

1. I personally think that the annotated bibliographies helped alot with writing the full length paper because it gave you a picture of how the layout of your paper is going to look without overwhelming you. I do not think that student feedback for it however was helpful.

2. I received feedback that gave me constructive critisism that helped alot. It made me look at aspects of my paper that i never really looked into in depth and I think that in the end it made my paper better.

3. I think that the strongest parts of my paper is my research and quotes. I think that my weakest parts of my paper are my word choice and connectors between quotes or paraphrases.

4. I chose to write my paper on this topic because I have become very interested in it and I hope to one day get there.

research topic

my research topic is on the stress, lack of sleep, and the effects of PTSD on surgeons. In my paper i will be looking closely at the questions of what patients want to know, how it effects the risks of surgery, and how it effects the lives of the surgeons themselves. Also the question of how can you help repair and potentially stop these questions and concerns. In my research i have learned that there are many things being done that we dont realize but when i look closely at them i realize why.

many surgeons suffer from fatigue, effects of PTSD, and stress and the reasons of why this is are sometimes overlooked. many people and even patients dont think about the fact that surgeons are known to work through the night, which would cause them to not get the full amount of sleep needed to be fully rested. when not fully rested, the likelihood of a complication becoming persent during a surgery  increases. Many people dont think about this but now there are more people shining lights on the topic. This is creating controversy between doctors, patients, and hospital administrators because of the things that they are trying to do to prevent these problems.
